When can I start?
Internship training posts are filled a year in advance, so all positions for August 2021 -September 2022 are currently filled. Keep an eye on our Home page for any announcements of slots opening up during the year!
The next available internships will start in September 2022- August 2023. 12 month internships will normally start between August-October, shorter internships can start in any month. Placements for all departments except the Learning Department* are available throughout the year, subject to availability. Competition for summer internships is fierce, so keep your dates of availability as flexible as possible, to increase your chance of getting a place.
* internships on this department are only available for 3 or 6 months between March-Sept 2022.
How long can my placement be?
Applicants must be able to commit to a minimum of 10 weeks internships and no longer than one year. Training for less than 7 months duration will take place in just one department. Internships longer than 6 months will take place in two different departments (research opportunities may also be available during longer placements).
Will I be paid?
Unfortunately not, as we are a charity our internship training programme is unpaid. You will be provided with a uniform and offered free bus travel to the zoo and a free lunch pass to eat at our Cafe Dodo for the duration of your internship. Interns must therefore be capable of covering all their other food, travel and accommodation costs for the duration of their placement. Unfortunately we do not offer scholarships for these training placements.
Do you provide accommodation?
We do not provide accommodation, so Interns must arrange this for themselves (approximate cost of accommodation in Jersey is £80-£120/week) and must only apply for the duration of placement that they know they can afford.
How do I apply?
Applications for September 2022- August 2023 will be open from 1st September 2021. To apply, please send your CV and covering letter by email to Internship coordinator Gale Glendewar at gale.glendewar@durrell.org by the closing date 31st December 2021. Application sent after this date will not be accepted.
Remember to also include the following in your covering letter: -
Ø What months you will be available
Ø How long you need your placement to last
Ø The departments that you are interested in
For those selected for interview, we will arrange to contact you via Skype or by telephone in early January 2021.
