Conservation in Action!
Calling all Durrell graduates…. we invite you to take part in our very first photo competition. Simply submit a selection of photographs that you think meet the criteria, and you could be the lucky winner of £250! The competition closes on 31 January 2021.
Photo Criteria
The title for the Durrell Conservation Academy Photo Competition is Conservation in Action! We invite you to think about picture(s) that best describe you and your work. You can be in the picture yourself if you like, and you can submit up to THREE (3) images in total.
We are looking for imagery that is both active and engaging. Images which communicate the depth, breadth and wealth of conservation field work which Durrell trained conservationists participate in, and from wherever it is safe to take a photo.
From working directly with threatened species or local communities to landscape restoration and anything in between. Here are some examples of the type of conservation photography we are looking for:
Please provide a brief description of each photo, including where it is taken.
Photographs remain the copyrighted property of the photographer; however, Durrell reserve the non-exclusive right to use the images submitted to the contest for publicity. See T&C’s for further information.
The Prize!
The winner will receive £250 towards the cost of equipment of benefit to your current project or work.
Please provide a paragraph on what the prize money will be spent on.

Winners will be contacted by us by 28 February 2021 after the competition’s closing date (31 January 2021) and announced on our website and Facebook page.

Judges will give preference to photos that they believe best meet the criteria Conservation in Action! The Judges' decision as to the eligibility of individual photographs will be final and no correspondence will be entered into.
The entrant can be in the photo provided. In this instance they must be fully involved in undertaking the photograph if it is taken specifically for the purpose of the competition and/or have the agreement from the person who took the photo to submit it for the competition.
Please take your photo responsibly and where is safe to do so. Entrants must abide by in country rules and regulations pertaining to the local habitats, communities, and businesses such as farmland and nature reserves and where there may be local instructions in place for people enjoying the environment.
Entrants must not cause injury or do anything to distress any animal or damage its habitat, either deliberately or inadvertently, whilst trying to take a photograph.
Photographs may be colour or black & white and uploaded by email as JPEGS.
Judges will disqualify photos with obvious or excessive digital manipulation.
Please retain a high resolution digital image. Finalists will be contacted by email and will need to submit a high quality image if they haven’t already done so.
Durrell employees are eligible to enter.
Entrants must complete all sections of the entry form.
The competition closes on 31 January 2021. Entries received after this date will not be considered.
Unsuccessful entrants will not be contacted individually and no feedback on any entry will be provided.
The prize will consist of £250 which can be spent on the cost of equipment of benefit to your current project or work.
If the winner is unable to be contacted after reasonable attempts have been made, Durrell reserves the right to offer the prize to a runner up.
Photo Rights & Usage
Photographs remain the copyrighted property of the photographer; however, Durrell reserve the non-exclusive right to use the images submitted to the contest for publicity, advertising, promotional, educational, and other purposes without obtaining further permission and/or compensation. Durrell will give credit to the photographer where possible. Sending in your photo constitutes acceptance of these terms.
We encourage you to share your photos on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram throughout the competition as well, make sure to tag Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust and use the hashtag #DurrellAction!We can’t wait to see your photos...
